Locate phone URGENT

iPhone 4s | iPad 2 | 21.5" iMac 2.7GHz 1TB
A friend of mine has lost their iPhone abroad. I have tried to track it using the find my phone app and the online icloud version but nothing can be done until it is connected to the internet. Anything that i can do to track it? or remotely lock it?

If it isn't available through the app or iCloud, then you can't do much until it is indeed turned on and connected to the Internet..

I have sent a remote lock request and requested an e-mail when it is connected to the internet on the off chance that works. Tried to phone it and it goes straight to voicemail hmmm
