We have around 20 Macs that have been having this issue, Mostly Mac Pros.

Directly after login, as Icons, Dock, and menu bar is loading, it pinwheels and freezes up requiring a hard reboot.

Sometimes a PRAM reset will fix it sometimes not. Permissions repair will fix it sometimes sometimes not. It generally allows us to login to our admin account on all of the machines, just not the users account.

Any Ideas?

G'day and welcome to the forums.

Are all 20 doing this? If so what operating system are they busing and all installed from the one DVD? Do you have an IT department/specialist as it sure sounds like wrong setting up if all 20 are affected.

We use a Netboot server and load Snow Leopard 10.6.8, w/scripted software deployment.
We have used this load for years, never had problems until last Friday.
The only change that has happened was updating Sophos, although that was well over a month ago.
