Adding Ical events

After installing Lion, the new ICal (which I don't like as much as the old one) does not enter a new event when I double click on the day. It only does it through typing in the date, time, and event name in the "create a quick event" window which is anything but quick. The odd thing is that each time I try to double click on my iMac it registers on my iPhone but not on my computer! any suggestions? Thanks-
