MacBook 4,1 2.4Ghz, 2x1GB RAM, 150GB HDD, OS 10.5.8
The specs of my MacBook are to the left.

Can any SATA II 2.5" HDD or SSD be bought and used? I've read that there is a size limitation to 500GB. Can I use any brand? Would an SSD increase boot times of the OS and applications? Also considering a RAM upgrade...

Thanks.

Am not aware of any 2.5" 500 GB drive that will not fit. You will need a 9.5mm tall drive. Don't remember now, but it was only a couple of the either 2 or 3 TB drives that when they first came out were at 11.5mm tall.

Wouldn't get a 500MB HDD though, the sweet spot money wise are the 1 & 2 TB drives. You'll pay only about 25% more (or less) to get a 1 TB drive to get 100% more storage space.

And yes, an SSD will definitely "decrease" your boot time and application launch times.

So there are no compatibility issues? As long as it fits. There's no size restriction? Can anyone confirm they've put a 1tb HDD in a MacBook 4,1?

Again any SSD can go in? What size would you recommend? Anything else I should look for when buying an SSD for a MacBook 4,1?
