Hello all. I've just recently bought my first MacBook and I'm having trouble trying to figure out the best way to network it with my existing PC running Windows Vista, my printers (I have three that I routinely use) and my two external hard drives that house all my media (photos, music and movies).

Ideally, I'd like to do this without spending a ton of money, but there seems to be no easy way to get the Mac and PC to share files. I can't even get them to recognize each other, let alone for the Mac to see the files on the external hard drives, which are hard wired into the PC.

Would a Time Capsule work as an easy solution? Can I partition it so that one half will automatically backup the Mac while the other houses all of my media for wireless sharing between the PC, my Mac, my Apple TV, etc.? I notice that the Time Capsule has one USB port for attaching a printer. Can I attach more printers using a USB hub?

Any suggestions you guys and gals my have are very much appreciated.

In Vista Network and sharing center Make sure file and folder discovery is on. If you're on a home network turn password protected sharing off. If you're using a third party firewall solution ensure that the local network is in the trusted zone.

To share out folders and disks in windows right click the folder or drive, Properties - sharing and allow sharing. These items will now be shared across the network.

On the Mac in System preferences - network, enable file/folder sharing.
