:[ I am running OS 10.7.4 and using Safari as a browser. All of a sudden, today, I cannot get a full size pic from a thumbnail. When I try to diagnose it I get a message saying "can't open Preview". Any ideas ??

Is the Preview app present in your Applications folder?

Error 1712 is a difficult one to fix since it refers to an application "timing out." In other words, OS X gave Preview a certain amount of time to do something and Preview took too long (more here).

It's possible that the Preview process is open but it may not appear to be so. Open up Activity Monitor (/Applictions/Utilities/) and look for something in that list called Preview. If it is there, select it and force quit it. I suggest this since this is a common problem with 1712 errors.

Excellent info. That certainly goes into the collection of things I did not know. Along with all things Unix of course. :Mischievous:
