Word 2011: footnotes not in footer ?

Hi guys, and thanks in advance for reading this,

My question : is it normal that my footnotes appear at the bottom of the page but not in the footer ? I'm pretty sure footnotes used to be placed in the footer... and now this glitch (or what I suspect to be so) is messing up my whole layout...

Am I going crazy ? And if not, is there a way to fix this ?

I think they are separate because the footer can hold placeholders (page #, title, chapter number, etc.). By keeping the footer and footnote separate, you actually have far better control over each. My guess is that you have not used footers with footnotes, and so thought they were in the same place.

Indeed... this actually makes quite a lot of sense...
I guess I got lost in some parallel universe there for a while.
