Your Mac's Specs
iMac OS X Version 10.4.11, 1.6 Ghz PowerPC G5, Memory 768 MB SDRAM,
I was just given an iMac G5 with OS X version 10.4.11.

Is a Mac Compatible WiFi adapter all I need to get WiFi working on it?

Before jumping to conclusions, have you in fact determined that the built-in Wi-Fi (called Airport) isn't working?
