boot up/snow leopard

I accidentally erased the BOOT portion of my macbookpro. All I get now is a padlock with a rectangle box to type in below . I need to do a clean reinstall, but I don't know how to get past that part.help!please!

That's not a problem with the boot sector. Your MBP is protected by a "Firmware Password" not an erased boot sector. Take it to an Apple Store with your purchase receipt and they can reset and remove the password for you.

It appears that you've set an EFI firmware password at some point. Reference the notes that you made when you set the password and enter it. You won't be able to do anything with the boot volume until you do this. Or, as noted, bring your proof of purchase to an Apple Store to have it reset.
