If you have snow leopard installed then you should have the app store icon in your dock next to finder. You can use that to download mountain lion.

Click on the apple icon on the top left and choose about this Mac and tell us what you see..

You didn't tell us which version of OS X you have? Yes, I know it's Snow Leopard but which version? You need at least 10.6.6 to access the App store.

I missed that in your first post about 10.6.2. Why didn't you update sooner?

If you can no longer access software update from your Apple menu, you'll have to call Apple customer service and have them send you a retail Snow Leopard disk (10.6.8) for $29.99. Or, if there's an Apple store nearby, go there and have them download the update for you. Take an 8 GB flash drive with you when you go.

No, they will do it for free. Be sure to explain to them what you told us here in the forum.

I'm confused. How is it even possible that the OP doesn't have Software Update?

Something's not right with this story.

Agree chasm.

When in Snow Leopard go to Software Update in the System Preferences and update to version OS X.6.8 and the App Store will then be available to you.

And if software update is having a problem, you can still be able to download the combo update direct from Apple.
