Is it possible to convert .xls, xlsx and .ods files into a format compatible with Numbers for OSX? If I can't do this I'll have to stick with Open Office, I'm not prepared to buy Office for Mac as it's too expensive and the trial version kept crashing.

Have you opened up Numbers and tried to see if it will load the Excel files?

No, I was asking the question to help me decide whether or not to buy Numbers.

Thanks

Way... way too many specs to list.
Numbers, like open office, is largely office format compatible. Most of the issues I've seen are related to minor formatting, but there are differences in things like macros etc. that said, I really do like numbers for putting together presentation ready spreadsheets.
