Ok so I got myself a ibook 500 12' it came with 128mb 10hd and 9.2 Os, Airport card, and cd rom, I have been reading most threads and everyone recoments updating the ram to 256 or 512 and running 10.2, but here are my questions: were can I find 10.2 in cd (ibook has no dvd), the memory I google it and I got anywere from $30-120 so its there any spec I should be looking for?

Hmmm, odd. My 10.2 disc IS a CD (2 CDs actually)......I know because I made a backup copy to a CD (2 CDs) as well. Maybe it came as both a CD and DVD at some point?

I wonder if the disclaimer "Disc will appear different than pictured" under the picture in that link means they are combining the CDs onto a DVD?

I have been running OS X on a 300MHz iBook (the original iBook model) for about two years. Here's my recommendations, in order:

Get a 512MB memory stick. Goto www.4allmemory.com You pick the computer you have, they tell you what compatible memory they have. There prices are in line with the other popular places.

Get OS 10.3 (aka Panther). Believe it or not it actually runs faster than 10.2 and it has "expose", a fabulous functionality to help manage multiple open windows. Performance of other built-in programs is also noticeably improved.

I expect you can't get OS 10.3 commercially anymore, so just google to search. I suppose eBay could be a good source. Or find a mac friend with the CDs. In any case, as a minimum you should upgrade to at least 10.2 if you can't get 10.3

Finally your hard drive capacity is a concern. Read this thread:
http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.php?t=280110

Basically, not only do you need enough room for your own files, but the OS uses HD space for virutual memory, gigabytes of it.

Other suggestions:
The eMail program that comes w/ the OS is horribly slow on my 300MHz iBook. Much more than any other program I use. BTW, It's performance was pleasantly improved in OS 10.3. Anyway, I was using the free Eudora email program that runs in classic mode (ie it's an OS 9 program).

When you install OS X watch for the "customize..." button. Here you can turn off the dozens of languages suppored. I selected only English and saved hundreds of megabytes in disk space.

Ohh I see Thanx, Hard drives are not that expensive so I guess now the order should be 512 memory 20 hd and try to find 10.3.On that link above the pictures for the cd 10.2 is emac you guys think if the 10.2 came with emacs it will be worthless for the ibooks?

Probably. Apple generally only ships platform specific disks with it's new Macs. The disc set that came with the eMac would not work in any other Mac (except another eMac).

128 vid card? How do you upgrade the video card on an iBook?

yes it is only an 8mb graphics card.
No, I wouldn't run logic 7 on it... It would be soooo slow.

What about logic 6? I am currently running logic 7 express and I'm having no problems atm. And it's a radeon not rage. If this is a problem can I change the video card?

Unfortunatly, you can't change the video card inside laptops. That being said, you *could* run logic pro 6, but I would add more ram to your computer... (at least 384 mb)
