Ram Reset: Command/R/option/P immediately on startup (hold to hear two chimes).

What is this cure-all? Practically every time I have some weird occurrence, before I go to a forum for help, I apply this technique and the problem clears up.

What type of thing is failing, and what does Ram Reset do to fix it?

It's not a "RAM" reset, it's a "NVRAM / PRAM" reset. See the following Apple article for more information: LINK
