Application to convert AVI and burn it into a DVD?

Hi all,

I'm new to Mac. I have an iMac and I would like to convert an AVI movie into a DVD playable format.

In Windows, I was familiar with an application called WinAvi. I've done a search and I've found so many Mac applications that claim to do the same thing that I am finally confused as to which one to choose!! I've even read that some of them are not reliable at all and are sold under different names!!

Can anyone help by recommending a good MAC application that can do the job?

I would start off with Roxio Toast. It converts and burns to DVD. For those it can't convert, try Iffmpeg.

A free app that should do what you want is Burn.

I've downloaded Roxio Toast Titanium. However when I drag and drop the avi file onto the DVD-Video interface of Toast Titanium, it tells me that a codec is missing (XVID). Any ideas on how to get this codec into Toast Titanium or on my Mac?

Basically if Quicktime player cannot play the video that most Mac based burners cannot convert it since they rely on Quiktime

Try downloading Perian, which extends Quicktime's codec support, then if the video plays in Quicktime player it will work

If you know anyone with visual hub, that will convert avi's and many others. This software company is no longer in business. Formally 'Techspansion'
You would need to have it on a CD. Ask around.

You can burn an avi's with toast without converting. Just click the "DivX Disc" in the sidebar.
Being small files , you can get several movies on a DVD.
