ok guys, i finally figured it out!
Here's my setup:
- HP laserjet 3015 connected to a Windows XP PC.
- Powerbook G4 (TIGER 10.4).
All computers are connected wirelessly to a netgear router/access point.
Router is set to assign permanent IP address to my computers as they connect.
both Mac and PC don't have user passwords.
To print from your mac to a printer connected to an XP machine:
First make sure that you properly configure your XP machine.
- enable printer sharing.
- enable UNIX TCP/IP printing service (you can do this by going to add/remove program)
- manually configure your TCP/IP settings. (do not automatically get it from DCHP server). make sure to fill out your ip address, subnet mask, router address, and DNS servers. do this on both your XP and Mac.
After you configure your XP machine and Mac TCP/IP settings, it's time to configure your Mac:
- add windows printer via SAMBA (http://www.some.ox.ac.uk/docs/it/mac_printer.pdf)
type this in the device URL:
smb://guest@yourXPmachineIPaddress/printersharename
yourXPmachineIPaddress - ip address of your XP machine
printersharename - printer share name
Try this! it should work. Good luck!
