The update was JUST released, everyone and their uncle is trying to download it right now. Give it until the weekend and you'll download it a lot faster..

had a copy of the 10.8 Install file from the Mac App Store sitting somewhere on my computer. deleted that file, it takes few minutes to run software update.

Is anyone else's Software Update showing 2 updates both saying 10.8.1? The 2nd one says you already have 10.8 installed!!

The 10.8.1 update is relatively small and on a normally fast connection should download quickly. Took me less than a minute to download and 2 more minutes to install and reboot. I would guess that it just fixes some of the more minor glitches that have been reported. I saw nothing to indicate that it addresses the rapid battery decline problem that has been reported by numerous users.

Charlie, same here. I am still showing that other download in the App Store and it's the 10.8 installer for sure. Crazy. I just paused it for now. :D

And nothing said about the battery issue affecting some Macs.

It was about a 5 minute download here. Installed and battery life is noticeably improved (not that it was awful before on my 2011 15" MBP), but I am showing a longer run time since installing.

Then maybe they did address the battery issue and just did not list it. Time will tell as reports come in.

Download was maybe 1 minute here and install was like Charlie's , 2 minutes.

Same here. I forgot that I still had a copy of the ML installer so I had to delete it as well. It took the update all of 2 minutes after that :)
