Do i need all of these start up items to load when my ibook g4 is starting up.

at the moment i have 16 start up items.

Does my ibook need these to start up and if they are not there does it make it quicker.

thanks chris.

What items are loading exactly? Check under system preferences>accounts>Login items to see which ones are automatically starting up. Normally iTuneshelper and iCalalarmsheduler are in there and maybe 2 or 3 others depending on what you have installed...

The best thing to to would to just leave it running. If you don't want to do that, then I would suggest just putting it to sleep, rather than shutting down. That way it will start right back up as soon as you open the lid.

Agreed, I never shut off my iBook unless it requires it...

I'm guessing the 16 items you meant were the ones in the Dock? Those are just shortcuts to commonly used apps, they aren't running unless you click on them (exception: the finder is always on).

While I never shut my desktop down, I turn my iBook off regularly. I would never leave my iBook running while it is in my computer bag as the airflow is minimal and heat issues could cause problems. Keeping a laptop that you actually take with you outside your home, particularly on business, is not always practical.
