It started with the constant spinning wheel, spinning for excessive amounts of time even when opening menus. I suspected a HD failure but just to be sure I popped into the apple store, long story short it was confirmed by them. A new 1tb Samsung Momentus was swiftly ordered.
Installed the drive only to find out that it doesn't have any kind of partition, I managed to get the old drive to boot in safe mode and used the disk utility to format the drive to HFS+ via USB. Reinstalled the drive, still not recognised. I then put the disk in a usb caddy and tried to install osx by launching the installer from the desktop, it goes through the motions for quite a while, it then restarts with 38mins of the install left, it then gets to the apple screen and hangs!
I'm at a total loss as to what to do now?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Update: I now have a bootable copy of Leopard on the hd, I took it to a friends and did it their MacBook pro, it refuses to boot from it from USB or internally, is there a possibility it could be an incompatible disk? I can still get the old disk to boot into safe mode so I know the disk cable is sound!
