I've used OSX for several years and the Office for Mac that came with my MiniMac, and it worked fine until recently. Now all the apps (Word, PowerPoint, etc.) freeze when they're opened. I've already repaired the disc, uninstalled and reinstalled Office, repaired disk permissions, and it's still not working. I tried Software Update but it says everything is up-to-date.. I can't use the update inside Word because it freezes and I can't do anything except force quit. I haven't added anything new, so I don't know what could be going on. Any help would be appreciated!

Which Mini do you have? Year and model? What version of OS X are you running and which version of MS Office do you have? Help us to help you!

I have the Mac Mini 2.4/2X1G/320/SD/AP/BT bought in 2010 and the product code is MC270LL/A if that is helpful. It came with OS X (10.6.3) and is now using 10.6.8. My Office for Mac just says OS X

We really need to know which version of Office you're using. Can you open any of the apps? If you can, click on the top menu (Word, Excel, PP) and then select about. That will show you which version you have.

I'd be willing to bet that's Office 2008. If so, I would try downloading SP2 here and see if that does the trick.

All of the apps freeze as soon as they're opened, so I can't "get info" there. In finder, if I click on them and get info, they are all 10.0.0. I will get SP2 and try it. Thanks!

It won't let me load SP2 or SP1, with a message that the software needed is not on my computer. More ideas?

Might well pay to uninstall Microsoft Office and do a clean install. Check with the CD to see if an uninstaller is included and use that or go to Microsoft web site and follow directions.

There was a version Office X released in about 2000 but it would be PowerPC and worth replacing with Office 2011.

How did you uninstall Office? Did you use the Microsoft uninstall instructions as given here? LINK If you didn't properly uninstall Office and then reinstalled it, it's likely that whatever problem or errors that were there will keep reappearing.

Also, it's probably a good idea to boot your machine with your install disk and do a verify and repair of the hard drive from the disk. You may have other problems that are keeping Office from running.

I did do the boot from my install disk and verified/repaired. I just used the Uninstall Office on my CD, so I will try the link you sent. Thanks!

May well be early version as uninstaller included. Office 2011 has no uninstaller.

He stated above that the version was showing up as 10.0.0. That would be MS Office X wouldn't it? Unless he's running Snow Leopard on that Mini, Office X will not run since it's PPC.

I followed the uninstall instructions from your link. Not everything matched the instructions (probably because it's not Office 2008), but I discarded all of the files with the "com.microsoft" and it seems to have worked. Hurray! I noticed that Silverlight was deleted and I have the link to reinstall it, but what is it for? Do I need it? Thanks so much for all your help!

You probably don't need Silverlight. But, if it should be needed for some content, you'll receive a message offering to download it for you.
