Apple TV & Airplay

Question is:
With Mountain Lion, is it now possible to send non iTunes videos to TV?
For example- I have a DVD playing a movie on my MacBook- can this be directly streamed to TV?
From what I've read, Airplay allows transmitting the desktop directly to TV.
Let's say I am making a Skype call (with my grandkids) can the be viewed on TV ?

If you have the appropriate equiptment and software (About AirPlay Mirroring in OS X Mountain Lion) you can mirror anything that's on your Mac screen to your TV via your AppleTV.
