After formating my disk and doing a time machine restore from disk utilities, microsoft office word 2008 is not working. Whenever I select word it runs and then directly shuts down. any one had this issue before? whats causing this problem?

Either something is corrupt or the restore from Time Machine did not restore everything. Did you exclude anything from your Time Machine backup when you made it? MS Office 2008 scatters files throughout the hard drive and some of them are critical to its working right.
Reinstall MS Office 2008. Your documents and templates will not be removed. Make sure though that you completely uninstall the copy that is not working first. Use these instructions from Microsoft: LINK
