After nine months of ownership, Google on my iPad has suddenly gone belly up. It displays search results as normal but subsequent clicking on any of these just gives a 404 error. Keying in the actual URL of found sites works fine so what's going on with Google?

Do other search engines work (yahoo, bing, etc) behave the same way? Are you using google with the safari browser? Have you tried google in other browsers (skyfire, opera, chrome, etc)?

Yahoo OK. Haven't tried any other browser on the iPad. Will try Chrome.

After using Yahoo for 2 days went back to Safari which now works just fine. Strange!

Just curious - Did you reboot during those 2 days or just started working?

Rebooted when error first appeared and the error continued afterwards. No further reboots before it sorted itself out.

Same problem

I am experiencing the same problem. Recently experienced the google 404 message on trying to open web pages from a google search. Left iPad unused for a few days, then on starting up again google was working fine for a few hours, then suddenly again started getting the error messages again. Tried alternative to Safari and google works ok. what is going on? Is there a way of reloading Safari?
