Hi,
I just upgraded to Mountain Lion and would like to use the Notes app.

I remember it asked me if I wanted to sync notes with iCloud and I said yes.

I've tried to turn on the sync for notes in iPhone but the phone keeps prompting me to set-up a free @me.com account which I don't want to do because that would be a nonsense.

Has anybody got any ideas what's going on here. I'm managing to sync reminders etc but no joy with Notes?

Thanks for the reply mrplow. Apologies for the late response..I have been polishing the silver in the West wing. So when I click 'Create' the following screen appears...do you mean insert my current email address in here ?

No not there.

Go to Settings - iCloud and put in your AppleID (the same one you use for iTunes/iCloud on your Mac)

Hi ,
But it appears that's what I've got in the iCloud Account information ....Apple ID and password are the same.

So at what point is it prompting to create a me.com address?

So at what point is it prompting to create a me.com address?

In Settings>iCloud I slide the 'Notes' button from Off to On and then it prompts 'Create' or 'Cancel'

Sorry, of course Notes.

For reasons unknown..... You need a me.com creating for notes sync

It's only notional. You don't need to use the address. Once entered it can just sit in the background and act as a mechanism for syncing

Aha right mrplow, thank you for your help. I'll give it a go when the sun comes up and report back.
Cheers

Sheesh that was a long night :) Sorry mrplow I forgot to report back, largely because I parked it. I just revisited the process and the @me.com email prompt has now changed to @iCloud.com.

I just chose an email address and set it up and am now syncing notes over iCloud which is very good. Interestingly the process informed me that iMessage and Facetime will now use the iCloud emaill address ?

Not sure how that will affect things.

Ah.... there's an iOS6 upgrade gone on there I'm guessing. That's when all those messages started to appear.
You can change the addresses used but it shouldn't have a negative impact on syncing either way

I found a similar issue and resolution. When creating notes on iPhone5, the note can be created in different accounts, "iCould" or "on my phone". Half of my notes were in each and naturally only the iCloud notes synced to the MBP. I was able to simple copy the notes in the "my phone" list and paste into the iCould notes list, which then synced. Afterwards I deleted all the redundant notes in "my phone" and just have to remember to make sure to create new notes in the iCould account.
