Anyone want to help me make a decision on when to buy a new PB/IB?

I bought a used G3 800/640/30 12" iBook at the beginning of this summer so that I could try out the Mac OS. After a semester of university and 3/4 of a year of use, I'm DEFINATELY never going back to PC. With having said that, during that time-span, I've had my logic board go out on me twice. I was lucky to have it fixed the first time without having to pay a penny, but I just don't want to deal with that hassle anymore! When I brought it in for repair, Apple completely went out of their way and even changed a broken hinge and added more rubber feet on my iBook without me asking. I was in love; In love with the machine, the OS, the service, you name it! Just this week, my iBook started acting up again! So I need some opinions on what I should do or buy next!

First off, I really like the 12" size. It is VERY portable and it's just a lovely machine! That is going to be a huge factor--portability. Secondly, I was thoroughly impressed with the performance of even a G3 800mhz iBook with Tiger--it ran circles around ANY Windows machine I've ever used! The battery life was awesome considering that I have to do A LOT of typing on-the-go for school and work, so that was impressive! HD space is almost a nonfactor considering that I barely filled up 10gb on my 30gb HD even with tons of Mp3s! DVD/CD-RW capability is going to be important since this will be my MAIN machine. Of course the bulk of my use will be in word processing, surfing the web and the quite-frequent use of Quark and other photo-editing/layout programs. BTW, my iBook handled ALL of this just fine!

I know that Apple is going to be switching to the Intel processors and I guess this has me a bit worried and flustered on what to buy... If I buy a computer, it will be my main computer for at least a couple years, so I don't want it to become obsolete within that span of time... so should I wait for the new machines to come out or what? Any help would be appreciated on what to buy... Thanks!

i dont have no mac's
if you buy now and an intel version comes out your not going to become obsolete at all. if you dont need a computer right this instant i would wait until macworld....it is only a few days away (well like 2 weeks i think)

What exactly would I be waiting for? I don't really *need* a computer right now, but I will need one when the semester starts up again.
