Should iMac's be used for gaming?

This is just a general question as i'm not that familiar with Macs and wonder if anyone uses them for both gaming and media and whether they are any good?

I know windows will be better for gaming as iMac's are more for your media related work, but i was just wondering how well some games run on them and if they can handle them well. As i want one mainly for media but some games would be cool.

As you stated...Windows computers are probably better for gaming...so you do recognize that iMac's may have some gaming limitations.

What "some games" are you speaking of?...it would help greatly in answering the question if some specific game titles were mentioned!

Well games such as Age of empires, minecraft etc would run well right?

but what if i decided to install call of duty or mirrors edge would i notice some performance issues?

I run call of duty and other first person shooters on my iMac without any problems.
I use Bootcamp with Windows 7.

oh right so a 2.7GHz iMac with an i5 processor 12GB ram would be good enough.

I haven't had any problems. Currently playing The darkness 2.

If you install Windows on it, the machine will handle games the same way a similarly spec'd non-Mac would. So, if you're going to dual boot (use OS X and Windows), simply compare the specs on your machine to the system requirements for the games you want to play.

Yup. Might sound a little intimidating at first, but if you follow the instructions to the letter you'll be fine.

Dual booting on a Mac is extremely easy! Just use bootcamp!;D
