macbook pro slows down ( takes time in processing )

i started using my macbook pro after one month break, what i found is

- taking more time to boot up( 7 plus minutes)
- hanged often
- very slow processing.


i even updated my software, still the problem is same
- cleaned my all cache files
- removed all folders and files from desktop


my macbook pro mid 2010 model, 2.53 i5 4 gb ram, 500 harddisk.

can some suggest me what to do

Interesting about the Desktop icons... I keep a ton of icons on my Desktop, but mostly in subfolders. I moved the whole kit and caboodle to a Documents subfolder, and will be interesting to see if my own boot time improves as a result.

i tried all the those 17 points, but nothing happened.

that 17 points are just to free the Ram, and my ram is usually free at 1.6 GB

is it like my hard disk get corrupted? or do i need to re install macintosh?

when i even open some new applications, it get freeze or takes lots time to reload.... mac guys help me out....
