I use various browsers and would like to place them all in the left hand side of the dock in a folder so as to save space any ideas?

Put an alias of each browser into a folder and drag the folder to the document end of the dock (by the trash). Right click on the folder to get a menu of the apps.

At the moment, you can only put apps on the left side and folders and files to the right of the System Prefs.
