Officially, Apple says I can't go back to Snow Leopard. Using Mountain Lion now and nothing works.

What's the truth? Can I reinstall Snow Leopard?

Can't answer the question without knowing exactly what computer model you're referring to.

Thank you, Nick, for your reply.

I have a Mac Book Pro. It's about a year and a half old.

2011 MacBook Pro? If it originally came pre-installed with Snow Leopard and you have the disk set, you can go back. However, it means you have to erase the hard drive first. Make sure you backup all your data. Use both Time Machine and cloning software to be safe. (Carbon Copy Cloner)

No, I don't have disks. This computer is a replacement from Apple. For a previous Mac Book Pro that seized up & died. There was something wrong with the other one, I don't recall what, but they didn't think it was worth fixing. I downloaded a huge amount of stuff from Time Machine. Snow Leopard was installed but I don't have disks.

This is the second replacement I have gotten from Apple since I bought the original in 2008.

What do you think?

You'll definitely need a Snow Leopard disk in order to boot the machine, wipe the hard drive and then reinstall SL. Give Apple customer service a call and order a Snow Leopard retail disk from them. My understanding is that they still have them, but you have to call.

As far as going back to SL, that's up to you. I'm currently using ML on this Mac but to be honest, I liked SL a lot better. But with Apple, if you don't move forward, you'll eventually be left behind.

Great. I'll call them.

I can go back to ML before I get left behind. Right now spend more time tweaking and fussing with buggy stuff than I do getting work done. ML just isn't worth it and the Cloud is a nightmare for me. Does absolutely nothing of any value. I have an iPod and that's it for Apple devices. So much for the hype of syncing everything across devices. I believe the Cloud is responsible for the quadruplicating every address in my address book.

Thanks.

A conflict with iCloud synching could well be responsible for the problem you are experiencing. This article might help clarify things a bit.
