Should I keep an old iBook clamshell in sleep mode?

Hi,

I've recently got an old iBook clamshell, indigo, for only a few pounds. I love it, underpowered as it is, but one problem is that it takes a rather long time to boot osx. So, will it come to any harm if I leave it in sleep when I'm not using it?? I know you can safety with modern macs, but I'm in the habit of turning mine off, a powermac g3 b+w, it acts as a heater otherwise!! What do you think for my iBook?

I leave my Clamshell iBook in sleep mode all the time when I'm not using it. And I can go for months at a time not using it...so it sits in sleep mode for months on end.

Thanks. Presumably that's not months from the battery?? I'm glad it doesn't damage the hdd or battery.

I'm guessing your battery is dead weight then? Do you know how long a half decent battery would last in sleep?

My battery is not doing too bad. I haven't checked it lately...but for a 10-12 year-old laptop...I think that I still get an hour+ on the runtime (not plugged in).

I'm not sure I understand your question. Are we talking with then computer plugged in...or not plugged in?

Unplugged, just sitting in standby.

Also, Ive just discovered that when it reaches about 50%, my battery suddenly decides its empty and the computer goes into 'deep sleep' or whatever. When i power it back up, it says 'charging from 0%'. Any ideas? I think i successfully reset the PMU, PRAM, VRAM.....

EDIT: If I then unplug it below 50%, it stays at where it was, and behaves normally, perhaps loosing charge a little fast, I'm not sure. I don't think I've come accross this behaviour before...
