Hi all, I'm new here

Is it worth it to upgrade to Mountain Lion? Right now I'm running Snow Leopard on a 24-inch 2008 iMac with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I've heard from some people that it's a great system, but others have said that it's not much of an upgrade. Should I make the move or stay put?

Thanks,
Alex

I think it's $19
How much is $19 worth to you?

With 99.9% of things in life...there will be folks that like something & folks that do not like it.

Now if you said that 90% of users said Mountain Lion is good...and 10% say it is no good (or the complete opposite)...then you might want to go with the 90% folks.

But without statistics to quantify each groups opinion...then you have to go with your own gut-feeling & research.

Can you upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion? If so and it's only $19 why did we upgrade to Lion for $29 and then Mountain Lion for another $19? I guess we should have waited?

Somewhere around here I have some old CPM disks that you can have for free (if I can find them).
You can always wait and get something cheaper (or sometimes free), but a better question is, "Is it worth the wait?"

I paid $29 and for my $29 I got to install Lion on 3 Macs and use it on those same Macs (with frequent updates) for about a year. To my mind I got plently of value in return for a very small investment.

Yes, you can upgrade from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to Mountain Lion for $19.99.

If so and it's only $19 why did we upgrade to Lion for $29 and then Mountain Lion for another $19? I guess we should have waited?

With that kind of thinking, why upgrade to Mountain Lion? Why not wait for OS X 10.9 Bobcat?

I guess If any of us could out think Apple and be able to predict what they're going to do next, we wouldn't be here. ;)

Razor, Funny, before I moved here I had CPM disks and an Xerox CPM machine. Not sure what happened to it in the move. Know it's not here. :D

Ok what is the better deal. $399 for Windows 7 Ultimate or $19.95 for Mountain Lion? Sure you can get a System Builders W7 Home for $99 but good for ONE MACHINE ONLY. Many features missing. With OSX there is no home, pro, Premium, Ultimate. One OS and that one OS for $19,95 will install on 20 Macs if you own them and register them with Apple. All for ONE low price. And to anyone who might say something, I love Windows 7. Best Windows ever made. I just like OSX better.

I have your basic iMac with same specs. ML runs very nice on it and for sure smoother than Lion before it. Is that worth $19.95? To me it sure was. Then there are the new features, some I won't use, but some I will.

In the end it's up to you, but it's sure a low price to give it a try! :D

Well I only updated to Lion because Mobile me was being eliminated and I only did that five months ago. So I guess for me, I'll wait till the next upgrade in a few months.

I agree. I have Leopard. I will get Mountain Lion or Bobcat or Caterpillar whenever I buy a new Mac. Up until recently, Leopard has done everything I need it to do. Lately, I've noticed a few problems on web sites that my version of Safari can't handle. This was the same reason I jumped on that Leopard from OS 9.2 five years ago, when I was using a different browser, of course.
