iCal - Google Calendar Sync Issue

I have managed to set up my Google calendar to be viewed by iCal. However, if I enter an event in Google calendar or an event in iCal, I don't see that event in either calendar. ??? Does this have something to do with iCloud? Suggestions appreciated. I've gone over the settings dozens of times,and there are not many of lthem.
