• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I will be purchasing a new G5 soon and will be using it for mostly video editing but can I use it for everyday use, connected to the internet for e-mail web surfing with out causing problems with Final Cut Pro? I was thinking of having two login’s one for general use and one for video editing. I know a window does not handle this to well even when you have two logins. :mac:

There is no problem having it connected to the internet and using Final Cut Pro. Just remember that if you are trying to capture video and use other programs at the same time, you'll end up dropping frames and FCP will stop.

I do what you are describing with my Dual 1.8Ghz G5.

I edit a lot of video for weddings, so I just have one login for all that stuff and one login for all the "normal" stuff.

rs2sensen was right though, you will drop frames if the processor is working on other things while you're importing.
