Apps Launching at Start up

Since upgrading to X Lion on my 2009 MacBook Pro, start up takes a lot longer and it launches apps:Video, Calendar, Excel, etc... How do I stop them?

Mini (2014, 2018, 2020), MBA (2020), iPad Pro (2018), iPhone 13 Pro Max, Watch (S6)
When you shutdown, uncheck the "Reopen windows when logging back in" checkbox.
