ive noticed when i open a few photos in preview the cpu goes through the roof
sometimes as high as 170%
ive tried a couple of progs like lightroom to scroll through pics and same thing
this can and does sometimes result in freezes and lock ups any ideas

What happens if you quit these programs that you're viewing photos in?

been keeping my eye on this for last couple of days
if i use preview to look at pdfs. ebooks etc all is fine. i can scroll through pages without cpu spiking
its when I'm viewing and scrolling photos. mainly raw files, that the cpu goes through the roof
just tried it using jpegs and no problem. so it seems the large raw files causing the problem
