Hi. I bought a new mid 2012 13 inch 128 GB HD MacBook Air about two days ago. It has 4 GB of RAM. It runs well and fast. However, according to conversations I have read online it appears as though I need more RAM. But as I said, my computer is new and running fast.

Under Activity Monitor:
Free: 36 GB
Wired: 1 GB
Active: 1.5 GB
Inactive: 1.45 GB
Used: 3.97 GB

VM size: 222.75 GB
Page Ins: 2GB
Page Outs: 664 MB
Swap Used: 465 MB

So what's up with my computer? Thanks.

You cannot upgrade the memory on an Air. What you have is what you have. Your figures appear to be about normal usage for 4 GB although I would guess that your "Free" is 3.6 GB, not 36 GB. I am guessing you are using "Activity Monitor" to provide those figures.

With it being only two days old you may be able to return it for one with 8 GB RAM from the factory. I personally always have the max memory possible in my machines to ensure that all software runs at the highest capacity the machine will allow.

Not even that math works (3.6 + 1 + 1.5 + 1.45 > 4). ;)

What kinds of applications are you using? Is there ant application using an exorbitant amount of memory (relatively speaking)?

I'm thinking that Free was supposed to be 36MB not GB on that one
