annoying drop downs

Hi, I'm new to mac and have just got a macbook pro. Whenever I click on a window to insert text ort numbers (like the subject box above) I keep getting drop downs - this is most annoying - am I doing something wrong?

can you explain what you mean by drop downs? What's in them? Which browser are you using? Which version of OSX?

Sounds like you are secondary clicking and getting the right click menu popup.

Open - System Preferences - Trackpad - Point & Click
and verify your settings.

Yep, looked up trackpad in preferences and found "tick with one finger" unchecked, ticked it and iot now seems to work - many thanks!
