Hi! Just bought 8GB RAM from Ebay (2x 4GB, 1333MHz) for my mid-2010 MBP

Took out the old memory and installed the new sticks. System profiler is telling me however that my 8GB is only running at 800MHz! (both slots at this speed)

-I had 4GB@1066MHz before and I now believe that to be the max speed for this MBP?
-Is it only recognizing 800MHz because I have exceeded that maximum?
-Is it really running at 800MHz or what? Or maybe at 1066, but just indicating 800MHz for
some reason?

Or could the problem simply be that the sticks were identified incorrectly? They have stickers on that say 1333MHz and I bought from a pretty major seller on Ebay.

Thanks in advance for any ideas

The correct modules for your model MBP are:

2 - 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

Macs are very fussy about using the correct memory. Send that memory back to the buyer and get a refund and buy the correct modules from a reputable reseller. We recommend either Other World Computing or Crucial.

so because I got the wrong ones, will they only be operating at 800MHz? or will it be 1066?
Thanks

It doesn't really matter what frequency they'll operate at. It's the wrong memory and will cause you problems in the future. Send it back and get a refund or re-sell it and buy the correct memory as I indicated above.
