Removing hidden files from external HD

Whenever I attempt to view the contents of my external HD, there are a significant number of hidden files that show up. Yet when connected to my Macbook, there is no way for me to see them. I used the defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles script in Terminal in an attempt to get rid of them, and while that showed most of the hidden files, it failed to show the ones on the HD.

Are there any other ways to remove the "._" hidden files that get created?
