Problems with installing panther on a imac

i just installed panther on my imac tray load 333. during bootup it gets to the alpple load screen then gives me a "you need to restart your computer. HOld down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button" error


what might i do to correct this issue?

when i tried it said it was up todate and could not perform

That's a kernel panic. How big is the drive/partition where X is installed?
Have you installed any memory recently?
