I have a Mid-2009 Macbook Pro 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8Gb Ram, 250 GB HHD. I'm very interested in upgrading to a June-2012 Macbook Air 13' 1.8Ghz, 8Gb Ram, 128 GB SSD. Would I see an increase/decrease in performance? I'm only a basic user that does primarily web browsing and *light* gaming. I'm also a student so portability is very important to me.

Thanks for the advice!

Also, what would my macbook pro sell for?

No contest. The 2012 Air is easily going to outperform the 2009 MBP. :)

As far as seeing what your 2009 MBP is worth, go here: LINK

Have you thought about just replacing your HDD with an SSD. Since you are a student, it will probably be much cheaper than selling your MBP at a loss and buying a MBA. Everything I've read shows that people that have upgraded older Macs with an SSD, have seen significant jumps in performance.

I have a 2009 24" iMac as well as a 2010 13" MBA. I plan on replacing the HDD in the iMac with an SSD, when the time comes, rather than spending ton to get a newer iMac. Good luck!

I had this exactly same machine until a few days ago.

It would certainly be more responsive. But for the use you describe, I don't think it would be worth the money. I would hold off for AT LEAST a year.

I just sold mine for $350.
