cinema hd display help

Hi i have a cinema hd display which i want to connect to my laptop (PC) via vga or hdmi.

the display has a lead out with:

Power(racetrack shape which is connected to the adapter)
dvi-d
usb
firewire

i have a dvi-d to vga connector and plugged the usb into my laptop but nothing seems to happen do i need a firewire adapter as this is not plugged in

Which cinema display do you have? We need the year and model number in order to get a read out on which cables it has and what the connectors look like.

That display requires a DVI-D signal. With your computer, you'd need an HDMI to DVI adapter.

You can't convert VGA to DVI-D; VGA is analog only and DVI-D is digital only.

You don't need to worry about the USB and FireWire ports; they are just for convenience.
