I have a Canon Vixia HF-11 camcorder which is great. However, something sticky (Fake blood containing corn starch from a movie my kids were making) has gummed up the mode selector dial. It still turns but it is sticky. This is the one on the right hand side that allows you to switch between shooting photos/video and playing back photos/videos.
Does anybody know if or how this dial can be removed? I just need to get the dial off to wipe the back of it, the stuff cleans up very easily with a damp cloth. I'm wondering it the dial will just pop off if I get something thin/flexible underneath the edge, much like a radio/heater control knob in a car before you have to pull the dashboard etc. Also the centre of the dial looks like it may possibly pry off to reveal a screw/clip underneath to allow the removal of the dial.
I'm hoping it isn't a case of cracking open the entire camera shell and replacing the entire switch. At this point even an exploded view service manual diagram would probably help. Any leads?
Thanks very much.
