I've been having a lot of problems lately writing DVD's with my MBP. I'm wondering if it might be a good idea to get one of those discs with tiny bristles that one inserts to clean the drive. I'm wondering if maybe there is some matter in there that is causing the problem. thoughts?

They're a waste of money and can actually do more harm to the optical lens. Instead, buy a can of compressed air and blow a couple of short blasts into the drive opening. If that doesn't resolve the problem, you're probably going to need to replace the drive.
