So yesterday I was having trouble with installing OS X 10.2 so I gave up but when i turned on my mac it didn't boot the old OS ( OS 9.2 ) all i got was a Happy mac icon for 3 minutes then a floppy disk with a question mark. So i tried to re-install the old OS 9 but when i press C on startup it just displays a grey screen and that's it. So then i booted the OS X 10.2 CD and ran the disk utility and it shows no HDD's! no disks at all so now i am thinking that thats why my OS didn't install but now i have a iMac that didn't read its HDD. Any ideas?

More likely a dead hard drive. Boot from the OS X.2 CD holding down 'C' immediately after the chimes, and if any joy leave installer and go to Utilities in the Menu bar, select Disk Utility and run repair Disk there and see what is reported.

Well that answers your problem.
