Sorry for what I think is a rudimentary question:

How do I save an image that is e-mailed to me, initially viewed using Preview into iPhoto?

I have been banging my head against the wall on this one?

Thank you to whomever responds...

Maybe I'm doing it all wrong, but I take a screen shot with Preview and then drag it into IPhoto or Aperture. First, I usually categorize my photos and put them into the correct folder that I have created because I use the photo several times. One can use the Import feature that both iPhoto and Aperture have. It will go out and find photos and you can choose which one to put into the programs. Works for me. Hope it works for you.

Oh, I forgot. If you are using MacMail it has a feature called "Save Photos" right at the top of the message and it will put the picture into iPhoto or some other place that you designate. Just have to name it when it brings up your pictures or library.
