Sorry seems like a novice question, but if I relaunch finder does it use the start-up disk or is it something different?

Thanks

No, re-launching Finder just means shutting it down and re-starting it. It does not necessitate a reboot. It would be the same as if you closed the File Explorer in Windows and re-started it.

Also, you should update your copy of Lion to !0.7.4.
