AOL Desktop Crashes

Just got a new MacBookPro running 10.7.4. Have installed the latest AOL Desktop program, and it sucks,,, mail can't be sent, mail can't be deleted, crashes when I try to shift screen names or quit the system. AOL Tech Support has thus far been worthless. Only version available is apparently 1.7.724.... Any suggestions? I have deleted, trashed, restarted, reinstalled. Same thing every time,,,,Though weird thing is that even after trashing, some "remnants" seem there--opens with same screen name every time I install...
