I am having a problem deleting messages in Mail even though I followed all the troubleshooting and set up preferences. I delete messages but they don’t go away.

Do you mean that they don't go away on screen or they are still on the server next time you check mail?

They are still on the server. I just deleted my mailbox and reloaded it and so far it seems to be working.

The quickest way to solve this problem is to highlight the mailbox, go to the toolbar, click on Mailbox and from the drop down menu, select Rebuild.

You will then be able to delete unwanted mail.
