Backing up an IBM clone using a mac?

Greetings,
I am not currently a Mac user, but am considering changing platforms. Before investing in a mac, I have some specific tasks I am investigating. One of these tasks is to have the ability to back up my wife's ibm clone computer across a wireless network using a mac. The media I am considering is either onto rewriteable DVDs or onto a USB hard drive. I would also like the ability to restore the information if her machine gets correupted.

I appreciate any information that y'all have. (yes, I live in Texas)

Thanks
Jonathan
