Hi

I've looked at a lot of threads and this is a common problem. After sleep, the machine wakes up but the screen cannot be seen without shining a light on it. I've hooked it up to an external monitor and everything is working fine.

It's a 2007 Intel MacBook Core2 Duo running OS X 10.6.5

Like others, I get the occasional flash on powering up, and when I use the brightness controller in System Preferences the screen lights as normal for 5 seconds, then goes dark again. This, I suppose, indicates that the display light is not broken.

If the inverter board is kaput - a frequent diagnosis on here - would the screen light intermittently as described?

I have done a software update and an SMC reset. No change.

My power adaptor light has not been behaving normally for months - it shows green or amber after connection, then the light goes out but the power continues to flow. This seems to be an SMC-related symptom as well, according to what I've read.

Help!!

Thanks

Thanks Chas.

Is inverter board replacement a DIY job?

Where would you recommend sourcing one from?

Depends on your DIY "skillness";)...but yes it is possible to do.

- Powerbookmedic.com is a good place for parts.
- ifixit.com is a good place for instructions...and maybe parts
